Facial hair and age expectance

I suck and haven’t been writing lately. I don’t know. There’s no “I’ve been super busy” excuse that would be totally cool. I’ve just not really been feeling it. Hence I’ve been a little sporadic.

Anyway, I’d say for the last month, but probably more: I’ve not shaved. Until last night at least. I was rocking a pretty awful beard frankly, but I’d never actually grown my facial hair untamed for longer than say..a fortnight without caving.

Here’s the verdict: I shouldn’t grow facial hair past a little stubble. It doesn’t really suit me, and it’s patchy as FUCK. No lie. It was pretty awful. I had a good laugh shaving in stages though. I’m a 22 year old child. I feel like Jack (Robin Williams is awesome).

I was also slightly encouraged by a particular biased American girl who prefers some “scruff”. Ever so slightly. Maybe. Completely.

So now I’m clean shaven and feel like I’ve lost about 10+ years of age in looks. I already regret not just trimming haha. It’ll take at least a week or so to grow back any notable or acceptable stubble.

Manly problems.

Facial hair for an interview?

So I’ve been pretty heavy lately, a lot of struggling with depression, a lot of focus on negatives. But then I remember there’s ridiculously terrible and awesome things yet for me to discover. One thing I know, there’s a lot more shit to discuss and think about at the very least!

Lets take a step back and think facial hair. What degree of facial hair is acceptable in an office environment?

So I grow pretty poor, arguably patchy facial hair. I generally like to be clean shaven or very neat, I look really young without facial hair though. I mean really young. I’m just debating facial hair or no for my job interview Monday.

I’m obviously wanting to look my sharpest, make the best impression..get the job. Jesus, give me a job that I can spend my time doing and enjoy. Give me a little money so I can be a bit more comfortable. Yeah.

So: facial hair, yes or no? I really can’t decide. I figure neat facial hair is fine, but it feels like a fine line between looking good or shabby. Decisions. Welcome to my inner monologue while trying to avoid thoughts that would merely leave me in a pit of emo.

New haircut, new job prospects, no idea

Got myself a new haircut, I had no idea what I wanted to do with it. I just knew I was bored with my usual style. I’ve went with short back and sides and embraced my messy style by keeping it long on the top. The guy that cut my hair went a bit overboard with sea salt spray to give it texture or whatever. But i’ll live with it! It’ll grow on me.

Anyway, I’ve got a job interview tomorrow. It got put back two months from when I was originally told it would be. I was told two days ago about it after all that time. Ugh. Past that boiling my piss, the job seemed like a good prospect when I didn’t have anything else on the table. Today, just like any public transport: I get an email in response to another role. One that I’d much prefer, pays better (Not much better, but still) and offers better chance of progression.

The first job is an admin apprenticeship role in a primary school in my town. I’d get basic qualifications and an admin degree. Seemed okay to me. The newest role is an apprentice digital marketing co-ordinator, it comes across as though you’re being hired with the intention of succeeding the current digital marketing co-ordinator. It’s fairly local (One short bus journey of 10-20 minutes). I’m totally on the fence, if I go for the second I feel like I have less chance of getting it. The primary school job feels like I have a good chance with an interview. If I get offered the first, I won’t have the chance to even consider interviewing for the second.

I’m so stressed out with it all, I can’t get a minutes peace to even think about it today when I need it either. Ugh. I have no idea what I’m going to do.

Acceptable haircuts for an interview?

I’ve had a mix of dodgy internet and an awesome day trip to Brighton to deal with lately, I kinda missed posting over that time. Weirdly attached to this already huh.

Where was I? Right, haircut. I have my first interview since beginning job hunting, I’ve kinda set myself on getting this one. It’s only an apprenticeship job, it’s awful pay. But I’d go to college once a week and pick up some useful qualifications. I look awful on paper, that’s another story.

So I’ve been trying to decide on a haircut, I get bored. I used to have long hair when I was much much younger, it’s now short. I generally have a swept fringe with quite short back and sides. I’m just bored of it. Lately I’ve actually been getting banter about looking like David Beckham, so I guess my hairstyle is similar to that, so you have an idea.

But I want to change it up, I’m bored. It’s quite a lot of work daily if I want to go to that effort because my hair loves to go curly at a certain length. I was thinking about getting something similar to Rou from Enter Shikari. Like this: ( I couldn’t find many great images)

Rou 2 Rou 3

Anyway, the point is: I know I’m a well presented guy. I come across well in interviews, I’m not big headed about it by the way, just take pride in my appearance. I look fucking awesome in a suit, hell. I’m very employable! Right now my hair is a little longer and messier, I’m getting a haircut anyway. The thing is, I don’t want anything to hurt my chances. I’ll even be taking my nose ring out this week (for the first time, ow.) to swap for a wee nose stud that’s barely noticeable.

I feel like a woman can generally have any hairstyle and still not have it affect her chances of being employed.

Is it the same rule for guys? Would that haircut hurt my chances? Even more so, if I was to get hired and then change to this cut, do you think I’d be well received? I’d love to know some thoughts here. I’m a bit stuck and unsure.
